Surabaya.AIAnews.id – Early detection and intervention are crucial for children with hearing loss. In Indonesia, a country with a vast population, developing effective structures for addressing this issue is paramount. A recent webinar, co-organized by the Ministry of Health, RSAB Harapan Kita, and Universitas Gadjah Mada, highlighted the pressing need for innovative solutions.

The webinar emphasized that hearing loss is a significant cause of disability worldwide, impacting communication, education, and overall quality of life. In Indonesia, the lack of comprehensive early detection programs and limited access to specialized care remain major challenges.

To address these issues, a multidisciplinary approach is essential. This involves collaboration between healthcare providers, policymakers, educators, and communities. Key recommendations include:

1. Strengthening primary healthcare: Integrating hearing screening into routine child health checks can identify problems early.

2. Establishing specialized hearing centers: These centers would provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services.

3. Developing a robust referral system: Ensuring seamless transitions between primary care and specialized care is vital.

4. Raising awareness: Educating parents, healthcare providers, and the public about the importance of early detection and intervention.

5. Providing accessible and affordable hearing aids: Collaborating with the government and private sector to make hearing aids more accessible.

By implementing these strategies, Indonesia can significantly improve the lives of children with hearing loss.
